New parents like the idea of being able to keep an eye on their baby with the use of a baby monitor. The only problem is babies are the most vulnerable to DNA damage and other health problems caused by EMF Radiation.
The safest baby monitors are those that transmit using the lowest RF Radiation frequency and/or the weakest signal strength. The next safest baby monitors use “Eco-mode”, which is a setting where the monitor emits RF Radiation full blast, but only when it senses motion or noise from the baby.
I have been seriously researching, studying and testing EMF producing devices for years now. And from an EMF perspective, my belief is no baby monitor is a safe solution. However in case you feel you have to have a baby monitor, in this article I am going to give you a list of baby monitors that I believe are the lowest exposure, safest options. But first let me briefly explain to you what EMF is, and why it is harmful.
What Is EMF? – And What Type Of EMF Radiation Do Baby Monitors Emit?
EMF stands for electric and magnetic fields. There are basically 4 types of what people call EMF Radiation. These are 1. electric waves, 2. magnetic waves, 3. RF Radiation and 4. dirty electricity. Baby monitors emit 3 of the 4, electric fields, magnetic fields and Radio Frequency (RF) Radiation.
Electric Fields & Magnetic Fields
When people talk about electric and magnetic fields as EMFs, they are almost always mean the electric and magnetic fields that come from small electronic devices. Every electronic device such as a baby monitor, curling iron, electric shaver and laptop, emit these forms of EMF Radiation.
However in my years of testing these devices I have never been able to pick up this radiation with a meter any more than about a foot to foot and a half away from the device. So the best way to protect yourself, is simply distance.
So unless you place your device closer than 2 feet from your baby, the eclectic and magnetic fields of the device won’t reach your child.
Radio Frequency (RF) Radiation
RF Radiation is emitted from a baby monitor if it connects to the WiFi in the house, and/or if the different units of the monitor communicate with each other wirelessly. RF Radiation is the most powerful and toxic form of EMF Radiation primarily because it is a a stronger signal that travels longer distances. Other devices that emit RF Radiation are things like AM or FM radios, microwave ovens, cellphones, smart meters, and WiFi routers.
One thing to remember however with RF Radiation is that the frequency being used effects how toxic the signal is. According to experts like Kevin Mottus from the US Brain Tumor Association, within the Radio Frequency (non ionizing) portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, the higher the frequency the more dangerous it is.
Likewise the length of time one is exposed as well as the strength of the signal reaching a person, also effects the toxicity.
Why Is EMF Radiation Bad?
After reading all of the scientific studies I have over the past several years, to me asking this question is as obvious as asking why smoking is bad. But I get that not everyone has been nerding out like me, reading all those scientific studies. So lets get into it; I’ll give you the very condensed summary version.
There are hundreds of peer reviewed scientific studies linking EMF Radiation to things such as cancer, brain tumors, breast cancer, DNA damage (especially in infants and fetuses), crib death and infertility. Even the World Health Organization finally had to classify EMF Radiation as a “possible carcinogenic” in 2011. That is the same classification they gave to the insecticide DDT that was later banned because it caused so much cancer.
An expert in this field who has studied this radiation his whole life, British Physicist Barrie Trower, says that he has witnessed several cases of where this radiation caused crib death. See his video below:
The Baby Monitor Non-Solution Solution – Very Important Section To Read
Important Note: There are several people out on the internet who are promoting this D-Link “wired” baby monitor system as “safe low EMF ” radiation. So I ordered the system and I tested it. It is not safe at all. If you go to my article entitled “Are Wired Baby Monitors Safe? – Get The Facts!” I go into detail and explain how with this system you are only trading one highly toxic EMF (RF Radiation) for another (dirty electricity).
If you are thinking of buying the D-Link “wired” baby monitor system, that would be a very bad plan. Please watch the video below before you do so you understand why.
The Best Low EMF Emission Baby Monitors Available in 2023 Are:
In 2023 “low” or “Reduced” EMF baby monitors take a different approach than what they used to take just a few years ago. When I was first researching them back in 2018 and 2019 there were basically two types. First, the safest were the analog (sound only) monitors that were using really low frequencies (49 MHz for example) slightly lower than FM radio frequencies (88.0 MHz to 108.0 MHz). The second used the higher more toxic frequencies in the low microwave ranges of 800 MHz (.8 GHz) up to 2.4 GHz, but reduced exposure with what they called “Eco-Mode”, by using motion/sound sensing to only turn on the transmission if movement or sound occurred.
As I am researching here in late 2022 I can no longer find analog (sound only) monitors anywhere near the safer FM radio range. This is probably because of the interference issues people often got with those frequencies. Instead there are three types available now that I could find, they are:
- Analog (sound only) monitors using the 865 MHz (.865 GHz) frequency with an “Ultra-low Emission Mode” setting that significantly reduces the power or intensity of the RF Radiation.
- Video monitors that use the 2.4 GHz frequency with an “Ultra-low Emission Mode” setting that significantly reduces the power or intensity of the RF Radiation.
- Video monitors that use the 2.4 GHz frequency with the old Eco-Mode setting that only emits RF Radiation when the unit detects noise or motion from the baby. When it does emit, it does so at full blast.
Okay let’s get to my list! Click on the links next to each to check the current prices!
1. Bebcare Hear Audio Baby Monitor
I put the Bebcare Hear Audio Baby Monitor first on my list because it uses the lowest (the 865 MHz or .865 GHz) frequency I could find. It is still in the more toxic microwave range, but just barely. It also has what Bebcare calls its “Ultra-low Emission Mode” which significantly reduces the power and intensity of its EMF Radiation output.
Features: This monitor is audio only. But it offers a far “crystal clear” range of up to a distance of 2,000 feet. It also claims to be secure and not hackable. It offers a white noise sound silencer. Although it offers breathing sensors as an option, remember that the breathing sensor pad may expose your child to electric and magnetic field EMF Radiation, depending on how close it is to your baby.
The nice thing about this monitor is it uses a frequency that you are very unlikely to have any interference issues with, so as an audio only monitor it should work great.
No matter which baby monitor you choose, the most important thing is to keep it as far away from your baby as possible so that it is getting the least exposure possible. If kids were still young and my wife insisted we have a baby monitor I would get an RF meter (a meter that measures RF Radiation) and keep the baby monitor far enough away from the child so that my meter could not pick up the radiation. I recommend doing that with all WiFi devices in your home, especially near any bedroom.
2. Bebcare iQ Smart HD Baby Monitor
I put the Bebcare iQ Smart HD Baby Monitor second on my list because it also uses the lowest (the 865 MHz or .865 GHz) frequency I could find. It also has what Bebcare calls its “Ultra-low Emission Mode” which significantly reduces the power and intensity of its EMF Radiation output.
Features: This monitor allows two way talk so you can speak to and calm your baby from your phone. It also claims to be secure and not hackable. It offers 360-degree pan-and-tilt capabilities, white noise sound silencer, infrared night vision, room temperature sensors, night light and a selection of lullabies it will play to your baby. Although it offers breathing sensors as an option, remember that the breathing sensor pad may expose your child to electric and magnetic field EMF Radiation, depending on how close it is to your baby. It also offers a range of up to 2,000 feet.
So really both number 1 or number 2 on this list really are my first choice, it just depends on the price and whether or not you want video and the other features. Both use the same frequency and both have the feature where the power and intensity of the signal is reduced unless it senses movement or sound.
Again I highly recommend, as with any monitor, get an RF meter (a meter that measures RF Radiation) and arrange it far enough away from your baby so that your meter does not pick up any RF radiation.
3. Bebcare Motion Smart Video Baby Monitor
I put the Bebcare Motion Smart Video Baby Monitor 3rd on my list because the frequency is much higher, 2.4 GHz. Bebcare says “no WiFi or Bluetooth needed”, but it uses the 2.4 GHz which is almost the same as Bluetooth’s 2.45 GHz frequencies. It does come with the what Bebcare calls its “Ultra-low Emission Mode” which significantly reduces the power and intensity of its radiation output.
Features: This monitor offers their two-way talk, night vision, a night light, a temperature display, white noise silencer, zoom in and out, digital pan and tilt, and the ability to play lullaby features. It also claims to be secure and not hackable. Instead of viewing your baby on your phone, this one comes with the video monitor you see in the above image. Although it offers breathing sensors as an option, remember that the breathing sensor pad may expose your child to electric and magnetic field EMF Radiation, depending on how close it is to your baby.
Again I highly recommend, as with any monitor, get an RF meter (a meter that measures RF Radiation) and arrange it far enough away from your baby so that your meter does not pick up any RF radiation.
Comment Before Continuing: The next three baby monitors I am going to list below are all pretty equal as far as RF Radiation output is concerned. All Emit at the 2.4 GHz frequency at full blast, but only emit when the monitors sense noise or motion from the baby. So these next 3 are not in any particular order. It just depends on what price you are more comfortable with as well as what features you want. Again, remember to click on the links next to each to check the current prices!
4. Moonybaby EMF Reduction Baby Monitor with 2 Cameras
The Moonybaby EMF Reduction Baby Monitor with 2 Cameras is a video baby monitor that emits the 2.4 GHz frequency at full blast whenever it is emitting it. But if you set it to “Eco-mode”, it only turns on and emits when it senses movement or noise coming from the baby.
Features: Since this monitor has two cameras, as shown in the above image you can set it for split screen to show two different sleeping babies, or two angles of the same child. You can get up to 4 cameras and it will split the monitor into 4 sections. Like all of the monitors on this list since it uses a digital signal, they all claim to be encrypted and not hackable. The Eco-mode setting also dramatically increased battery life. This monitor has 2-way talk, room temperature sensing and 5 built-in lullabies.
Again I highly recommend, as with any monitor, get an RF meter (a meter that measures RF Radiation) and arrange it far enough away from your baby so that your meter does not pick up any RF radiation.
5. Moonybaby EMF Reduction Baby Monitor with Remote Pan Tilt Cameras
The Moonybaby EMF Reduction Baby Monitor with Remote Pan Tilt Cameras is a video baby monitor (like the other Moonybaby above) that emits the 2.4 GHz frequency at full blast whenever it is emitting it. And it also only turns on and emits when it senses movement or noise coming from the baby, if you set it to “Eco-mode”.
Features: This monitor also comes with two cameras but allows up to 4 and will split the screen accordingly. It also claims to be secure and not hackable.
6. LeReve EMF Reduction Baby Monitor
The LeReve EMF Reduction Baby Monitor is another digital video baby monitor that uses the 2.4 GHz RF Radiation frequency full blast whenever it emits. However if you set it to “Eco-mode it will only turn on and emit this radiation when it senses noise or movement from the baby.
Features: This monitor comes with one camera but can take up to 4. When using multiple cameras the screen splits as shown in the above image. It offers 2-way talk, auto night vision, and a room temperature sensor. The auto night vision gives clear grayscale infrared images assured knowing you can see your baby not only in day time, but also in night time. The Eco-mode setting also dramatically increased battery life.
Again I highly recommend, as with any monitor, get an RF meter (a meter that measures RF Radiation) and arrange it far enough away from your baby so that your meter does not pick up any RF radiation.
Final Thoughts
As I said in the beginning of this article I have been seriously researching, studying and testing EMF producing devices for years now. And from an EMF perspective, my belief is no baby monitor is a safe solution. However in case you feel you have to have a baby monitor, these monitors are the safest I have been able to find.
These baby monitors will be even safer if you get an RF Radiation meter and place the baby monitor far enough away from your child so that the meter cannot detect any RF Radiation.
