Does WIFI Create Health Problems?

Modern technology makes our lives easier, in so many ways.  If there’s WiFi, you can get something done.  15 minutes to kill before a hair appointment and there’s WiFi? Perfect.  I’m checking the news of the day and maybe sending a quick Marco Polo video to my friends.  WiFi is everywhere.  You can’t see it, but you know it’s there.  The only problem is WiFi emits high levels of radiation which have been linked to cell damage, cancer, sleep problems and learning disabilities.

WiFi Radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation. It is just a higher frequency form of Radio Frequency (RF) Radiation, (radio waves) in the microwave range.  Within the RF Radiation portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, the higher the frequency, the more dangerous it is to living organisms. WiFi or RF Radiation was listed a couple of years ago as a “possible carcinogen”, meaning cancer causing by the World Health Organization.

There are hundreds of studies that show the harmful biological affect that WiFi Radiation has on living things. I list links to several of these studies on the “Scientific Studies” page of this website. In the chart below you can see depicted the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Above the radio waves and microwaves (a.k.a. RF Radiation) section of the spectrum are infrared light, visible light, x-rays and gamma rays.

Electromagnetic Spectrum

To understand why WiFi is so dangerous, let’s take a look at how the modern day technology works.  Most homes and businesses these days have WiFi routers. These routers make it possible for any wireless device, such as your phone, laptop or game system to connect to the internet.  To make these connections possible, a WiFi router sends signals to your devices and nearby cell towers.

According to Time Magazine, “WiFi currently carries more than 60% of the world’s Internet traffic.  Interestingly enough, this is great achievement is basically done with radio waves, although it’s a little more complicated than your car stereo,” Time Magazine.

How Much RF Radiation Does A WIFI Router Give OFF

I am including the below video here because in it I test a WiFi Router with a high frequency analyzer and show on camera how much radiation the WiFi Router is putting out. I then put the router into something called a “WiFi Router Guard” and test it again. With the router in side the guard the radiation is reduced to almost nothing. Its pretty great! A router guard gives you the best of both worlds. You should check out the video. I have links to where you can purchase a WiFi Router Guard on the Recommended Protections page on this website. I really recommend everyone get one if they choose to keep their WiFi Router.

Some studies reveal WiFi routers can give off more radiation than that of a cell phone. The levels of radiation vary, depending on the type of phone you have.  We do know that any long term exposure to radiation, regardless of the source, is a recipe for disaster.  For perspective, the World Health Organization recently classified cell phone radiation as a possible carcinogenic.  Dr. Igor Yakymenko, is a prestigious doctor who writes a blog about the health implication of WiFi:

“During decades physicists / technicians stated that any effects of microwaves (e.g. cell phone and Wi-Fi radiation) in humans except of heating the tissues are impossible, and respected scientist should never study such nonsense. But some stubborn biologists / medical scientists nevertheless studied the issue and found that something is wrong with perfect physical theory according to which only ionizing radiation can affect living cells.

Low intensity microwaves being non-ionizing do affect living cells. And that is not heating. Non-thermal effects of microwaves can be very perceptible and very harmful, including many disruptions in cell metabolism, damages of DNA, and even cancer transformation of exposed cells,’” Dr. Igor Yakymenko.

Recently, in the largest study of its kind, the US Toxicology Program linked cell phone radiation to the development of rare tumors in rats. The 10-year, $25 million dollar study, exposed rats to the same level of radiation we are exposed to every day.  The Scientific American featured the study on its website:

“The findings, which chronicle an unprecedented number of rodents subjected to a lifetime of electromagnetic radiation starting in utero, present some of the strongest evidence to date that such exposure is associated with the formation of rare cancers in at least two cell types in the brains and hearts of rats. . . More than 90 percent of American adults use cell phones.

Relatively little is known about their safety, however, because current exposure guidelines are based largely on knowledge about acute injury from thermal effects, not long-term, low-level exposure,” Scientific American.

RF Radiation Health Problems

So, it’s clear radiation from cell phones and Wi-Fi (remember they give off the same radiation) can cause major health problems. Several countries around the world are taking a closer look at the health effects Wi-Fi may have on children in the classroom and at home.  Just about every  school is equipped with Wi-Fi, laptops and other high tech devices.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs are big areas of interest for students across the world and for good reason.  But, according to researchers Wi-Fi can cause kids to have a hard time focusing, sleep problems, irregular heart beats, anxiety, depression, nausea and headaches.

“ A lot of times unfortunately, parents are not associating these illnesses with the installation of the Wi-Fi at the school. So kids are going out and getting diagnosed with all sorts of different things and they are missing the source. When parents do figure out that this is the source, they are forced to keep them away and not attend school,” Frank Clegg, Former President of Microsoft Canada

Did you catch that? The former president of Microsoft in Canada- one of the biggest tech companies in the world acknowledges there are health risks associated with Wi-Fi.  Dr. Magda Havas, a well known doctor and advocate for children likens Wi-Fi in school to kids sitting in a microwave.

“A WiFi classroom is like the inside of a microwave oven set at very low power. Children are exposed to that WiFi radiation six hours every school day, five days a week, and for several months during the year.” – Dr. Magda Havas, Associate Professor of Environmental and Resource Studies.

Clearly, you would never put your child inside a microwave, so why would you send them to a school hooked up with all the latest gizmos and gadgets?  I’m all about using technology for learning, but there has to be a better and safer way to do so.

Are you ready to say goodbye to WiFi? Most people can’t even fathom the idea of disconnecting.  We get it.  You have Facebook posts to like, conference calls to complete and FaceTime dates with your sister in Ireland.  Plus, even if you stop using Wi-Fi, your neighbor still has it and so does your favorite coffee shop in town.  You know the one with extra flaky croissants?

So, you do what you can and that starts at home.  Unplug your WiFi router at night or when you’re not using it.  If this isn’t an option, opt for a router guard.  A guard keeps the radiation entering your home.  You can purchase one on Amazon.  Also, ask if your kids are connected to the Internet at school?  If you can, ask their teacher to keep WiFi routers out of the classroom.  Only you can keep your family safe from the dangers of WiFi.  Good luck!
